It gives us great pleasure to welcome Sam Pollard back to London & Zurich in the position of sales manager. In true London & Zurich fashion, we sat down with a coffee and asked Sam about his career journey, the exciting elements of his new role, and what he enjoys doing in his spare time.
Tell us about your career to date
While completing my degree in Business Studies with Entrepreneurship at Bournemouth University, I had the opportunity to work for Haines Watts Chartered Accountants, where I worked on accounts for a well-known nationwide hairdressing franchise. After graduating, I worked as a product manager for Nouveau Solutions, an IT services company, which involved account management and sales pitches for national institutes and high-footfall venues that host racing events.
Before I joined London & Zurich, I wrote my dissertation about the business, which meant I already knew the company, the Direct Debit space, and how London & Zurich fits into this sector. As a result, I was approached by the company to fulfil the role of sales development manager. I have now spent more than six years with London & Zurich, being promoted to sales and marketing manager in that time, and becoming a member of the senior management team.
What does your day-to-day look like?
My day-to-day is designed to be fluid as it is usually shaped around people who require my time, which could be potential clients, current clients or colleagues. My role is to support and try to improve everybody’s world, whether this is through helping a potential client who would benefit from adopting our Direct Debit system or colleagues who require assistance in some way. I am responsible for overseeing London & Zurich’s sales channels, net revenue targets, marketing, product development and even some elements of risk management.
What excites you the most about your position?
The role is engaging and enriching. Helping people is very altruistic, as represented by London & Zurich’s philosophy: assisting businesses to take control of their cash flow. That being said, watching the company and my colleagues grow is just as rewarding.
What are you looking to achieve now that you have returned to London & Zurich?
I am keen to pass on my knowledge of the Direct Debit system and the changes taking place within the industry in 2020, while at the same time assisting colleagues and the company’s growth. In fact, this is the main reason I returned to London & Zurich: I wanted to be able to apply my experience in a business where you can clearly see progression in all areas.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I am family-orientated and enjoy spending time with my three children. I have a keen interest in sports, especially football and rugby, which I watch avidly. I also enjoy running and keeping up-to-date with cultural events and the latest business news.
